When many players enter a blackjack tournament, the casino must accommodate them by either having more tables or structuring the tournament in several elimination rounds. The players with the most chips after a single round of blackjack will progress to the next round, often called the semi-finals. This is usually structured to have seven tables, so that the winner of each of these rounds get a seat at the final table, where the overall tournament winner will be decided.
The structure of each blackjack tournament may be different. There are usually set time limits or a set number of hands designated for each round. It may be possible for the top two winners from each table to advance to the next round. In some cases, it is possible to buy back in to the tournament if you are eliminated in the first round. It is of the utmost importance that you ask the tournament organizers before you begin to play. All of the rules should be readily available and easy to understand so you can structure your game play accordingly.
